10 instagenic coffee shops you have to visit in Tokyo

Hola! So continuing my first post, I feel like this topic deserves its post on its own, so here goes. All that has (*) serves very delicious coffee. Sometimes not all instagenic coffee shops can serve great coffee (people come there to take pictures). Almost all places listed here can be reached via google maps, that’s how I found them anyway.

And do take note that not all Japanese coffee shops love a photographer inside their shop. I once was reprimanded by the barista for taking an instastory video on Café Kitsune’s Bar. Turns out, you’re not allowed to. And if you’re travelling with some friends, it is important when you do coffee hopping, every person needs to order at least one cup of coffee for being allowed to sit inside their shop (if you’re doing takeaway, its fine).

I once ordered a coffee takeaway cup, and during the process of making, my sis was waiting on the side, sitting on the bench inside the shop. But the barista directly asked my sister to step out because she didn’t buy coffee, and do note there are no other customers except us…which is a little bit annoying tbh. Not all of them are like that, but that was what I experienced in my coffee-hopping experience in Tokyo. Just something I thought you guys should know.

  1. Shozo Coffee Store / Blue Bottle* – why do I combine these two together? Because they are next to each other. Shozo being more the instagenic one but my heart loves Blue Bottle’s coffee more. Located in Omotesando area, this district has a lot of cafes and is quite crowded in the weekends. To be honest people think Blue Bottle is overrated, but I for myself, think they serve really good coffee. I recommend you paying a visit on weekdays though, because the lines on weekend is pretty harsh.

  2. Café Kitsune* – actually I really loved their iced latte, strong and nice. I also really loved their vibe. Definitely a must if you’re in Tokyo, and its just approximately 500m away from Blue Bottle and Shozo. You can make these two in a day trip.
Definitely a place for OOTD, girls.

  3. The Airstream Garden – this cafe in a Van was so viral in one of the coffee account I followed on Instagram, I knew I had to see it with my own eyes. This is still within reach if you decide to join this with number 1&2. I did so in my first day in Tokyo. Located near the Cat Street Harajuku / Meiji-Jingu metro stop. You should definitely check this one out.

  4. Onibus Coffee* – this one I love, their filter, cappuccino, all tasted excellent. Designed in a compact two-story building and japanese touch of architecture. This is the place where you get instagenic + good coffee. They also had a seating place in second floor with superb view. This is the Nakameguro branch, I believe there is the other one but my friend recommended this one and I can see why.

  5. Sidewalk Stand* – Just walking distance from Onibus Coffee, you could combine these two as a day trip! Approximately less than 10 mins walk, I think? Google map will help you get there. This place serves sandwich and coffee and was quite crowded during my visit. Almost all seats were taken. They had a few seats on the first floor and seating at the second floor. But I preferred drinking my coffee while looking at this. (A.k.a at the cross road just beside a river, was really a calming experience for me.

  6. Fuglen Tokyo* – This one is another favorite of mine, great coffee, crowd was okay, it wasn’t too suffocating. I do recommend you taking a seat here. You can reach Fuglen from Harajuku Station around 10 mins walk (800m). I visited here right after Little Nap Coffee Stand, so I walked from there.

  7. Little Nap Coffee Stand – This little shop, was located in a neighborhood area, near a railway. I reached here from Yoyogi-Koen stop, less than 5 mins walk. You could make this trip together with Fuglen Tokyo.

  8. About Life Coffee Brewers* – This coffee shop is quite far from any others, you can get down from Shibuya station and take left. It is a uphill and quite a tiring walk, but its worth it. But you should now this is a very small coffee shop with minimal seating. People usually drink coffee while standing or takeaway. Their coffee is mainly supplied by Onibus so, good coffee.
Located just at the corner, this little coffee shop is ideal for office workers in need of caffeine fix
  9. Glitch Coffee* – This one has the most amazing filter coffee. Their Costa Rica is a must try. Even though its quite pricey, serving at almost 600JPY a cup. Its a cup of excellence beans, it has a very pleasing aftertaste that water tasted so sweet after drinking this coffee! Definitely go for their Costa Rica! This one is located quite far from others though, so you need to make time for this one. Their seating is decent too. I spent almost 3 hours there, because it has a roastery machine too, it smelled very good in there.

Best Costa Rica I’ve ever tried in my life, seriously.
  10. Aoyama Flower Tea House* – ….and this one’s not a coffee shop, but a cafe. Haha! But I need to mention this because if you ever got sick of coffee, they serve really nice tea here. I also had their flower toast which was ah-ma-zing! The place also smelled really great because of all the fresh flowers on the place. Their toast was quite pricey, mine was around 1000JPY but boy, it was worth it. Girls, you really need to check this one out.

Flower Toast, tastes as good as it looks!
